When we face the death of someone, even a person who is not Catholic, to have a Mass offered for the repose of his soul and to offer our prayers is more beneficial and comforting than any other sympathy card or bouquet of flowers. To have a Mass or several Masses offered for a person who is deceased is an ancient and praiseworthy Catholic practice. A Mass is offered to pray for a person that he/she may be at peace in heaven. Since each Mass is of infinite value, requesting one or several Masses is of tremendous benefit for the person prayed for as well as for the family, knowing that their intention is joined with the prayer of the Church.
It has been a long-standing tradition of the Catholic Church to pray for those who have gone before us. At each Mass, there is a special intention for that Mass. The names of the persons we pray for are also mentioned in the Prayer of the Faithful.
We also pray for the living. And so, to have a Mass offered on the occasion of someone's birthday, wedding anniversary or special need (e.g. healing, in thanksgiving) is appropriate, beneficial and appreciated. It shows that we deeply care for our loved ones.
Requests for Mass Intentions are gladly accepted at Saint Mark's for living or deceased loved ones and friends. Mass Cards are available in the Parish Office during normal business hours and always after Mass.

A suggested $20 offering (donation) for each Mass Card is highly appreciated.
