St. Mark’s Parish was founded as a mission church of Our Lady of the Mountain, Schooley’s Mountain in 1986. 9 acres of land on Spring Lane were purchased by the Diocese of Paterson as the future site of St. Mark’s. For many years, a parish family life center was built and served as a church, religious education classes, and office space. It is still used for our Religious Education classes and parish events.
In 1988 St. Mark’s was raised to the status of a Parish. During the next years, the parish grew, and its ministries expanded. In 1999 serious plans were begun for the building of a church. Through the efforts and support of many parishioners, the new 600-seat church with a large gathering space and new office space was completed and dedicated in 2002.
St. Mark’s Church is a visible sign of the faith of the believers who worship here and call St. Mark’s home. St. Mark’s has always been a family-centered faith community, and families large and small have been welcomed. The parish celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2013 and 30th Anniversary in 2018.
The future is in the hands of God and the parishioners of St. Mark’s – we seek new families to join our community. We want to continue to meet the varying needs of our parishioners and families. We seek to meet our past financial obligations and move forward with other projects (physical and spiritual) that will help us minister more effectively to our community.
We cordially invite you to join our Parish Community and experience yourself the spirit of St. Mark’s!
